China's mobile users to reach 405 mln by 2007, annual growth at 15 pct - report

Date-Time: 2003-7-30 16:42:33 BEIJING (XFN) - The number of China's mobile phone users is expected to reach 258 mln this year, 339 mln in 2005, and 405 mln in 2007, with an annual growth rate of 15 pct, the International Business Daily said, citing sources with the Ministry of Information Industry. The newspaper quoted an official with the ministry, Wei Jun, as saying the expected rapid increases are largely a result of the government's policy of stimulating domestic demand, developing remote western regions and advancing telecommunication technologies. Wei said the ministry will create a better environment for the development of the domestic information technology industry, open the market to more competitors, encourage investment in research and development and speed up industrialization of 3G products over the next few years. wang.teng@xfn.com
