Jackson in 1887. Located on 123 scenic acres, Jackson State attracts
students from all over the state.

The Old Capitol Museum of Mississippi History

Designed by architect, William Nichols, of Bath England, this
building was first opened in 1839 only 17 years after the city
was founded in 1822. It was the statehouse from 1839 to 1903
where all branches of the government convened. The Rotunda rises
up 94 feet from the limestone floor.
Admission is free. Open most days. Closed on major holidays.
Group tours are available by appointment.

The State Capitol Building
Built 1901-1903
The designer of this edifice was Theodore Link of St. Louis, Missouri.
It was restored from 1979 - 1982 at a cost of $19 million. Open

See hundreds of beautiful flowers in wonderfully landscaped settings.
Each season has its own moods. This garden, created by Mynelle
Westbrook Hayward, has bulbs from around the world. The gardens
were purchased by the city in 1973. The homes on the premises
are often used for weddings and receptions. The gardens are a
wildlife sanctuary and a haven for many songbirds of the area.

The Galloway House

Charles Betts Galloway. This is a two story home in the Victorian

The Oaks House Museum

This is Jackson's oldest existing home, built about 1850 by the
mayor of Jackson at the time, James Hervey Boyd. Stately, old
Oak Trees on the property gave the estate its name. Please call

The AA club team of the Houston Astros. The Generals are the
only professional team in all of Mississippi. The Generals play
their games at Smith-Wills Stadium
