Guangdong
is located in the southern part of the south China Sea, encompassing
a total 179,766 square kilometers.
Guangdong
(Yue for short) is located in the south-eastern part of China
and it borders South Sea and two special Administrative Regions
(SAR): Hong Kong and Macao. It covers an area of 178,000 square
kilos and has a population of 70 millions. Its provincial capital
is Guangzhou.
Guangdong
lies in sub-tropical zone and the average temperature is 19 to
23 centigrade degree, the average annual rainfall is more than
1500 mm, the rainy season is from April to September. Two fifths
of its area is covered by mountains while two fifths plains and
mesas. There are many rivers such as the Zhujiang River (Pearl
River), which is composed of the Xijiang River, the Beijiang River,
the Dongjiang River, the Hanjiang River, the Rongjiang River and
the Moyangjiang River.

As
a famous commemorative structure of Chinese revolution built in
1931, Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum was designed by the well-known architect
of modern China Lu Yanzhi, who was also the designer of Sun Yat-sen
Mausoleum in Nanjing. The building complex is composed of the arch
over the gateway, the auditorium and the stoteyed buildings on its
east side and west side. The auditorium is octagonal in the shape
of the palace hall.

Folk Culture Village is a large tourist center where folk arts,
culture and architecture of China's various nationalities are assembled
in one area--the first of its kind in China.
Constructed
with the joint investment from China Travel Service (Hong Kong)
Limited and Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town Economic Development
Corporation, the Villages, which occupies an area of 200,000 square
meters, is situated by the picturesque Shenzhen Bay and adjacent
to " Splendid China", the famous miniature scenic spot.
Guided by the
principle of "originating from real life but rising above it, and
discarding the dross and selecting the essential", the Villages
attempts to reflect from various angles the folk customs and culture
of China's nationalities. Twenty-four life-size villages representing
the typical ethnic architectural styles of 21 selected nationalities
of China have been built in the tourist center.
In addition
to appreciating various ethnic architectural styles, visitors can
expect to enjoy watching as well as taking part in the singing and
dancing of different nationalities, the on the spot demonstrations
of making handicrafts; taste local delicacies with typical ethnic
flavors; watch carnival of national arts, song and dance performance
by professional artists; visit an exhibition hall of folk customs
and enjoy folk festive celebrations, etc. Visitors can have a taste
of the colorful cultures of China's 56 nationalities.
In China Folk
Culture Villages, you can find a stone forest of Yunnan, a forest
of coconut palms of Hainan, towering age-old banyans from Nanbin,
a high statue of the Thousand-handed and Thousand-eyed Guanyin (or
the Goddess of Mercy), memorial stone archways of Huizhou, laser
folk music fountains, etc. Undulating hills, roaring waterfalls,
winding streams and racing boats enliven the scenery in the tourist
center, where visitor may make sightseeing tours on foot, by vehicle,
or by boat. A grand folk festive celebration will be held each month
in the Villages. Grand, romantic, rejoicing and auspicious, these
festivities will enable visitors to take in the happy atmosphere
of the magnificent occasions and to feel the poetic quality of the
life of the Chinese nation.
